CBD and Marijuana Strains

For anybody that has existed within the marijuana community for any amount of time, having a plant that is high in THC; the primary psycho active cannabinoid within the cannabis plant. Which was first discovered by Dr. Ralph meet Mechoulam in 1964, and set the “medical marijuana” argument ablaze.

Prior to the 1964 discovery… and quite a while after that, most stoners – in addition to scientists and doctors, believed that THC or as it’s more formerly known “tetrahydrocannabinol” was the primary culprit in the marijuana plant providing not just the elevated state of mind, but the wide ranging spectrum of the different medical benefits.

The most recent scientific data now shows that this tunnel vision has done a massive disservice to both the medical marijuana patients of United States, and the economy.
Many of the recent studies are now indicating that cannabinol, the scientific name used to describe the CBD cannabinoid compound is cultivating tremendous hopes in the treatment of cancer, pain, anxiety, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis and a host of other diseases.

Cannabidiol as a novel inhibitor of Id-1 gene expression in aggressive breast cancer cells.
Here, we report that cannabidiol (CBD), a cannabinoid with a low-toxicity profile, could down-regulate Id-1 expression in aggressive human breast cancer cells. The CBD concentrations effective at inhibiting Id-1 expression correlated with those used to inhibit the proliferative and invasive phenotype of breast cancer cells. CBD was able to inhibit Id-1 expression at the mRNA and protein level in a concentration-dependent fashion. [source]

The interesting thing noted throughout the scientific studies is that the CBD cannabinoid tends to tone down the overall high which is sought when people consume marijuana that is high in THC. In a bizarre twist of fate… because of the recreational marijuana smokers desire for their bubs to be of a higher THC percentage, today’s marijuana cultivators have unwittingly bread out one of the major medical components with in marijuana plant.  When one goes through the medical marijuana collectives today, you would be hard-pressed to find a top shelf strain… that contained more than .5% CBD cannabinoid.
In a world of greed, and self-interest it’s wonderful to see a new paradigm in the medical marijuana cultivation field that is currently underway thanks to projects CBD. Project CBD is on the leading edge in the scientific research behind the true medicinal use of marijuana, and it’s CBD cannabinoid.

Our Intentions  Project CBD is a non-profit educational service dedicated to promoting and publicizing research into the medical utility of cannabidiol (CBD) and other components of the Cannabis plant. It was conceived by two journalists who have been covering the medical marijuana movement / industry in the pages of O’Shaughnessy’s. We think the reintroduction of CBD-rich Cannabis into the grassroots supply warrants special focus. [source]
